Trump Nominates Bradley Partner Hal Mooty to Serve as Federal Judge in Alabama
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Aug. 14, 2025) – Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that President Donald J. Trump has nominated Harold D. Mooty III, a partner in the firm’s Huntsville office, to serve as a judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
“We congratulate Hal on being tapped to serve as a federal judge with the U.S. District Court,” said Bradley Chairman of the Board and Managing Partner Jonathan M. Skeeters. “Hal is a tremendous litigator who has been a distinguished member of our firm since 2012. He will make an excellent judge.”

If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Mooty will be the 10th Bradley alum to become a federal judge in the last 15 years.
Mr. Mooty is a commercial litigator focused on contract disputes and business tort matters across the Southeast. He often handles cases where injunctive relief is requested, frequently in emergency situations where the success or failure of a business is at stake. As a litigator, he has represented both individuals and businesses in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration proceedings. His litigation experience includes numerous non-compete, non-solicitation, and non-disclosure cases, and he has advised clients with emerging employment, joint venture, partnership, and shareholder disputes. Mr. Mooty also has experience in insurance coverage actions and has represented healthcare clients against allegations of medical malpractice and civil rights violations.
Mr. Mooty serves on the Supreme Court of Alabama’s Commission on Access to Justice and is an active member of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program. He is also an active member of the Alabama Bar Association. Mr. Mooty received his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law, as well as a B.S. from the University of Alabama.
