MEMBER EVENT: Pass the Torch Lecture Series: America's Greatest Space Generation
Join the UAH Dept. of Space Science, in conjunction with the Center for Space Plasma and Aeronomic Research (CSPAR), at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center or a Pass the Torch presentation – featuring Ed Buckbee speaking on "America's Greatest Space Generation".
The UAH Dept. of Space Science and CSPAR offer a Joint Space Weather Summer Camp program where students from UAH and Germany learn about space physics. Buckbee has supported the program by educating students since 2011.
Buckbee, who has enjoyed a more than 50-year association with the space program, follows the brave pioneer astronauts – from Alan Shepard's suborbital flight to the last man to walk on the moon, Gene Cernan – he will cover all the manned missions of that era. Through time and personal friendships, he captures their dreams of flying higher, faster, and farther than anyone in the known universe. Enjoy his behind-the-scenes perspective on the competition between chimpanzees and astronauts and the conflict between NASA engineers designing capsules and those who would pilot them.
Pass the Torch features innovative, influential and interesting professionals from industry, academia and government speaking about their work in space, aeronautics, engineering, science research and other related fields. The Pass the Torch series is open to the public and is made possible by Jean Wessel Templeton and Linda J. Smith. A great way to reconnect with history, learn more about specialized topics, or even catch a glimpse of an exciting future, Pass the Torch inspires and educates young and old alike!
