MEMBER EVENT: The Medium
UAH Theatre's century-spanning season continues this month with Gian Carlo Menotti's "The Medium." The one-hour, English-language dramatic opera is a collaborative production with UAH's Music Department, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of concert performances.
"The Medium" tells the story of a séance gone awry and the tragedy of its aftermath. It unfolds with Madame Flora, a fake psychic, using her daughter and a mute servant to cheat unsuspecting customers out of their money. But during a séance, Madame Flora is touched on the hand – an occurrence that she cannot explain and that drives her to insanity. Perfect for the Halloween season, "The Medium" is co-directed by Theatre Program associate professor David Harwell and Music Department lecturer and long-time vocal coach Karen Young.
"It is indeed special to collaborate with so many amazing artists on such a stirring piece of dramatic music," says Harwell. "We are proud to have UAH on the list of opera-producing universities, and we hope to continue this unique offering." Starring sopranos Martha Brouse and Angelica Reidy, and with gorgeous music conducted by Dr. David Ragsdale, chair of the Music Department. "The Medium" is guaranteed to thrill and chill audiences!
