In the fall of 1998, Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC) of Madison County officially launched its first class at First Baptist Church Huntsville with nine women enrolled. Since then and continuously for the past 25 years, CWJC has provided job and life enrichment classes at no financial cost to those participating. Over 800 women in Madison County have benefitted from these classes and services over these past 25 years.
And, in efforts to also provide similar classes to men, CWJC changed its name to Christian Job Corps (CJC) of Madison County a few years ago. From its beginning, CJC of Madison County has operated as a church and community model, incorporating Christian churches from throughout the county as well as health, educational, government, and business organizations who desire to “be a part of a ministry that equips men and women for life and employment; a ministry that provides a ‘hand up’ rather than a ‘hand out’.”
In 2003, CJC hosted its first fundraising luncheon, Circles, with over 600 people in attendance. One attendee at the inaugural luncheon described it as “an elegant, inspirational event.” Now, annually, Circles brings approximately 1,000 men and women from across Madison County and beyond together for a one-hour luncheon event. Proceeds from this luncheon are the main funds used to continually provide CJC classes and services to participants at no financial cost to them.
Dale Jobes, CEO of Cintel and long-time partner with CJC and Circles, explains, “We support CJC because of their focus on helping under-resourced people begin and follow a pathway to self-resiliency with faith at the forefront. CJC is a leader in our community in helping people the right way to success.”
