Valley Conservatory Celebrates 25 Years with Free Community Concert on April 28 at UAH

Valley Conservatory is Celebrating 25 years of providing cultural enrichment to the Tennessee Valley area with a 25th Anniversary Celebration Concert to be held on April 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Roberts Hall on the Campus of UAH. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Valley Conservatory was founded by Dr. Beatrice Renee Collins as Collins Studio in 1997 as a home studio teaching violin, viola, and piano. In April of 1998, the name was changed to Valley Conservatory.   Through the years, the Valley Conservatory has grown to over 400 students with two locations.

The mission of the Valley Conservatory is to “Develop Better People Through the Medium of Music.” Our philosophy is the aesthetic and technical aspects of music can be used to teach concepts and principles from academic, physical, spiritual, and social realms. Since its inception in 1998 the Valley Conservatory has exposed thousands of students and music lovers to the classical arts and is a catalyst for cultural change, enlightenment, and opportunity.  The Valley Conservatory offers the following services:

  • Music lessons to Pre-K through adult students in piano, strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice, guitar, and ukulele
  • Music education programs, extra-curricular and academic
  • Arts learning and exploration through camps and workshops
  • Art classes Pre-K through adult
  • Customized art experiences for after school programs
  • Valley Conservatory Lyceum Series, Jam sessions, Valley Conservatory Early Music Festival and exhibits offered to the public
  • Valley Conservatory Book Agency - Musicians for hire for any type of event or occasion
This concert is especially significant because it will feature three students from different academic levels performing the 1st Movement of the Beethoven Triple Concert with the Valley Conservatory Lyceum Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Renee Collins.  Joshua Gaston, pianist, is a sophomore at Madison County Virtual Academy.  Emma Boyd, violinist, is a junior at The New England Conservatory in Boston majoring in violin performance and Esther Benjamin, cellist is pursuing her doctorate degree in cello performance from the Hart School of Music in Hartford Connecticut.

All three soloists are products of the Valley Conservatory.  This is the first time in Huntsville that three students from different academic levels are performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto.

The concert will also feature Dr. Irish Hankins, soprano, and The Devere Pride Trio. Works to be performed include Corelli’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8 in g minor commonly known as the Christmas Concerto and Strauss’s Pizzicato Polka.

The concert is also significant in the sense that it will be a potpourri of music from different genres which will include Baroque, Classical, Jazz, Art Songs and Spirituals.

This is going to be an event you will not want to miss. The Valley Conservatory Lyceum Series, which are free and open to the public, encourages dialog between artists and the audience.  Additional information is available at valleyconservatory.com or by calling 256-534-3131.
