Turner Construction Company Hosting 8-Week Program for Northeast Alabama SMWBE Businesses
HUNTSVILLE – Turner Construction Company, a general contractor with offices in Huntsville since the 1950s, is offering an 8-week workshop for small, disadvantaged, minority-owned, women-owned and veteran-owned businesses. The program, which begins March 6, is designed to provide businesses in the local construction industry with the tools they need to grow their business and find opportunities to work on major projects in the area.
The Turner School of Construction Management (TSCM) is free to qualified businesses, but space is limited. To be eligible, businesses must be a construction oriented-firm in business for at least three years and must be certified as a small or minority-owned business.
Registration is open now and runs until February 24. The program begins March 6 with classes on Thursdays at Turner’s Huntsville office until April 24. Classes run from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and lunch is provided.
“Turner has a long-standing commitment to supporting small and minority businesses in our industry, and our Turner School of Construction Management is an outstanding tool to improve operational expertise and prepare for future opportunities,” said Rebecca Goodwin, program manager for Turner. “With the continued growth of our region, this is a great opportunity for local construction industry businesses to take the next step in their capabilities.”
One of the most prestigious education and community outreach programs in the commercial construction industry, Turner’s program presents an opportunity for firms to improve their economic viability by enhancing their managerial, technical, and administrative skills while networking with similar businesses. Companies also learn how to make themselves more visible to large general contractors.
Since 1969, Turner has graduated more than 30,000 business representatives from TSCM programs across the country.
Turner’s Huntsville business unit serves clients in the aerospace, industrial, government, education, and commercial segments. The company aims to secure at least 20 percent of sub-contract work through SMWBE businesses but exceeds 30 percent on many projects.
