Michelle Abroms Levin selected as a WomenLEAD Excellence Award winner during Dentons International Women's Day celebration

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On Wednesday, March 23, during Dentons annual International Women's Day celebration, the Firm celebrated its sixth annual WomenLEAD Excellence Awards to recognize lawyers, professionals and business service professionals who go the extra mile to aid and advance women in the workplace. We're proud to announce that Huntsville Managing Partner and Shareholder Michelle Abroms Levin was selected as this year's WomenLEAD Excellence Award winner in the Emerging Leader category. Way to go, Michelle!

Michelle was nominated for the award by her Tax Controversy teammates in the Huntsville, AL office. During the award presentation, Associate Sarah Green thanked Michelle and shared, "Michelle joined the Firm in 2013 as the only female attorney in the Huntsville office and on the Tax Practice Team.  In 2020 she was elected shareholder and the first female managing partner of the Huntsville office.  She quickly rose from second chair in high-profile US Tax Court and District Court Trials to First Chair, leading the team to multiple Taxpayer wins in an area of the law where the Government does not often lose.  Michelle has led the charge in several high-profile tax cases, most recently Hewitt v. Commissioner, Oakbrook v. Commissioner, and Goldring v. United States.  She has also negotiated and navigated multi-million dollar Taxpayer wins." One of Michelle’s recent victories is highlighted here: Dentons’ Tax Controversy team secures second victory at Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals defeating IRS’s challenge to taxpayer’s charitable deduction

Additionally, Sarah stated, "While Michelle is one of the best and most well-known tax controversy attorneys in the nation, the work that she does internally, which I might argue is more important, often goes unseen.  Michelle is intentional to always set aside time to mentor and develop the young attorneys around her.  She has single-handedly grown the number of female attorneys in the Huntsville office by 500%.  Michelle is passionate about teaching young lawyers, specifically females in tax controversy, by bringing us along with her in the daily grind of her practice.  Michelle doesn't just tell you what to do; she shows you.  Michelle's ability to develop and maintain deep mentorships opens doors for young female attorneys to thrive. Michelle shows what it is to be a true leader: balancing being an attorney, partner, spouse, mother of young twins, managing partner, friend, mentor, and visionary for our team. She mentally shows up every day, and she encourages those around her to give their best efforts."
