Calhoun Hires Industry Veteran to Lead New Aviation Maintenance Technology Program
Calhoun Community College is expanding its workforce education offerings with the launch of its new Aviation Maintenance Technology program, providing students with a direct pathway to careers in one of the nation's fastest-growing and highest-demand industries. Registration is now open for Fall 2026, with classes preparing students to become FAA-certified Aviation Maintenance Technicians.
Leading the new program is Adam L. Crow, who joins Calhoun as Aviation Program Specialist and Lead Instructor. Crow brings more than 15 years of experience in the aviation and aerospace industries, where he has held leadership positions with organizations including Blue Origin, Segers Aerospace, CAS Components, PHI, and Fokker Airinc.
"North Alabama continues to experience tremendous growth in the aviation and aerospace sectors, creating an increasing demand for highly skilled aviation maintenance professionals," said Crow. "Our goal is to prepare students with the technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and industry certifications needed to begin rewarding careers while supporting the workforce needs of employers throughout the region."
As Aviation Program Specialist, Crow is responsible for developing Calhoun's new FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technology program, including curriculum development, degree pathways, laboratory and facility implementation, budget management, and dual enrollment opportunities. In addition to leading instruction, he will work closely with aviation and aerospace partners throughout the region to build strategic partnerships, strengthen workforce pipelines, and secure equipment donations and industry support that enhance the student learning experience.
Students enrolled in the program will receive hands-on instruction in aircraft inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting while preparing to earn the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification—an industry-recognized credential sought by employers nationwide.
Calhoun's Aviation Maintenance Technology program is designed to meet the growing workforce demands of North Alabama's thriving aviation and aerospace industry while providing students with an affordable, high-quality education that leads directly to employment opportunities.
The program will culminate in an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Aviation Maintenance Technology, preparing graduates for entry-level positions as aviation maintenance technicians with commercial airlines, aerospace manufacturers, maintenance repair organizations, corporate aviation departments, military contractors, and other aviation employers.
Crow earned an Associate in Applied Science degree from Alabama Aviation Technical College while obtaining his FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate. Throughout his career, he has developed extensive expertise in FAA regulations, aerospace quality standards, manufacturing operations, and workforce leadership. He is currently continuing his education at Calhoun Community College and is studying Aviation Business Management and Project Management.
Prospective students interested in launching a career in aviation are encouraged to apply now. Registration for Fall 2026 is currently open, and classes will provide students with the knowledge, hands-on training, and industry credentials needed to succeed in this exciting and rapidly expanding field.
Classes begin on August 19. To learn more about the program, visit www.calhoun.edu/aviation.
