Calhoun Community College to Offer Tuition Waivers for Lifelong Learners

Calhoun Community College is excited to offer a transformative opportunity for lifelong learners aged 60 and older. Through a tuition waiver program, eligible individuals can take the first step toward fulfilling long-held dreams—whether that means pursuing a degree that life once put on hold, exploring a new career path, or mastering a skill that brings joy and purpose to their lives.

This program is more than just a chance to take classes; it’s a pathway to personal growth and achievement. Whether you are looking to complete unfinished goals, gain knowledge to start a side business, or enhance a hobby, Calhoun is here to inspire and guide you. With diverse programs and a dedicated community of educators, the college provides the tools and support needed to turn aspirations into reality.

“We encourage everyone that is considering Calhoun to visit one of our campuses in Huntsville, Decatur, or downtown at the Alabama Center for the Arts,” commented Jessica Jackson, Calhoun’s Recruitment Coordinator. “The value of connecting with us in person allows us to show you what some of our learning environments look like as well as give you a feel for our campus culture. You are also able to ask questions in real time and meet many of our outstanding faculty and staff members,” Jackson adds.

Campus tours can be scheduled online at www.calhoun.edu/tours, and include:

  • A guided walk through our beautiful campuses.
  • Opportunities to meet instructors (subject to availability).
  • Q&A sessions to address your questions.
  • Assistance with applications, financial aid, and academic advising.
Tuition waivers are available on a space-available basis, meaning courses will not be expanded beyond their optimal capacity to accommodate waiver recipients. The waiver applies to tuition for one-time enrollment in a course; however, if a student wishes to repeat a course, they will be responsible for both tuition and fees. Additionally, any general fees or charges applied to all students must be covered by the student.

To qualify for the tuition waiver, applicants must:
  • Be at least 60 years of age.
  • Be Alabama residents.
  • Enroll in credit courses (non-credit courses are not eligible).
  • Meet Calhoun’s admission standards (see admission requirements for details).
“Education is the foundation for growth at any stage of life,” says Kassie Mathis, Vice President of Student Services. “This tuition waiver represents our commitment to investing in our community, giving lifelong learners the chance to rewrite their stories and achieve milestones they once thought were out of reach,” Mathis adds.
