Calhoun Community College to Honor Veterans with Special Veterans Day Program Featuring Two Remarkable Female Veterans

Calhoun Community College is proud to invite the community to its annual Veterans Day Program, honoring the brave men and women who have served our country with valor and dedication. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, November 7th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Grand Foyer of the Sparkman Building on Calhoun's Huntsville campus. This event is free and open to the public.

The program will feature two distinguished female veterans, both with extraordinary service records and inspirational stories. Sabrina Godlewski, a U.S. Air Force veteran, served as a Cryptologic Linguistic Analyst for five years, utilizing her passion for language, writing, and analysis in critical missions. She is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in General Studies at Calhoun, with plans to further her education in Political Science and Economics. Supported by her loving wife, Sabrina’s journey is one of commitment and service both to her country and to her academic pursuits.

Also speaking will be Command Sergeant Major (CSM) (Ret.) Angel C. Clark, a trailblazing U.S. Army veteran whose 33-year military career made history and left a lasting legacy of leadership. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Tuscumbia, Alabama, CSM Clark enlisted in the Army in 1983, receiving advanced training as an Ammunition Storage Specialist. Over her career, she deployed to Iraq, Egypt, Afghanistan, Romania, and Bulgaria in support of major operations, including Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. She held numerous leadership roles throughout her military career, including Platoon Sergeant, Battle Staff Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), Battalion Ammunition NCO, First Sergeant, Battalion CSM, Brigade CSM, and Joint Task Force CSM.

CSM Clark’s military accomplishments are truly remarkable. She broke barriers as the first female Command Sergeant Major in the Ordnance Corps to serve at the General Officer level, leading troops in combat and achieving historic milestones. Her dedication to excellence was recognized through prestigious awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit (2 OLC), Bronze Star Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC). She distinguished herself as a Soldier in combat, a person of exceptional integrity, honor, and selfless service. She earned a reputation for superb technical competence and teaching acumen, which continued during her time at the Expeditionary Contracting Command. She always maintained her perspective and respect for any service member defending the Nation, and later retired in 2016.

Beyond her decorated military service, CSM Clark has continued to give back as a Senior Logistics and Strategic Planner at Redstone Arsenal. She is deeply involved in her community, volunteering with multiple nonprofit organizations that support veterans, the elderly, and underprivileged communities. Her enduring contributions were further recognized when she was inducted into the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps Hall of Fame in 2020, a rare honor with fewer than 500 inductees since its inception in 1969.

"Our veterans embody the very essence of what it means to be a patriot, serving with courage, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms, commented Dr. Jimmy Hodges, Calhoun President. “I encourage our community to come out and attend this special program, where we can hear firsthand from two extraordinary women who have dedicated their lives to this great nation," adds Hodges.

This Veterans Day program is an opportunity for the community to gather in unity, to honor our heroes, and to be inspired by the personal experiences of Sabrina Godlewski and Command Sergeant Major Angel Clark. Their service, both past and present, is a testament to the strength and dedication of women in the U.S. Armed Forces.
