Bradley’s Scott Burnett Smith Elected to Board of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Bradley is pleased to announce that Scott Burnett Smith, a partner in the firm’s Huntsville office, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL). He has been a Fellow of the AAAL since 2016.
The AAAL’s Board of Directors consists of five officers and six directors who set strategic direction and policy, provide direction for committees, and oversee day-to-day operations. Directors serve staggered three-year terms.
Mr. Smith is the founder and chair of Bradley’s Appellate team. His practice covers healthcare payments litigation, Medicare Advantage regulatory disputes, class actions, ERISA litigation, government investigations, complex litigation, and appeals. He has been involved in dozens of nationwide class actions in state and federal courts and has handled over 45 class action appeals. Mr. Smith is also regularly involved as the appellate lawyer embedded with a trial team in complex civil litigation. In that role, he has succeeded in having several multimillion-dollar injury verdicts, including punitive damages, remitted by the trial court or reversed and rendered by the appellate court.
Founded in 1990, the AAAL is an invitation-only association of nationally respected appellate lawyers dedicated to promoting the highest standards of professionalism and advocacy in appellate courts to advance the administration of justice. Fellows must have 15 years of appellate practice experience and undergo a rigorous vetting process.
