About Us

Built in 1819, the same year that Alabama became a state, the Weeden House is one of the finest examples of Federal architecture in the South.
Original architecture and period furnishings complete the 19th century house museum. The antebellum home was the birthplace and lifelong residence of acclaimed poet and artist Maria Howard Weeden. Howard Weeden is known for the watercolor paintings of African Americans who resided in Huntsville during the Reconstruction Era and the poems that captured their stories. It is available for tours, field trips and event rentals.
