General Ann E. Dunwoody (U.S. Army, Ret.) On Nov. 14, 2008, after 33 years of service, Dunwoody was promoted to four-star general, becoming the first female to be so honored. That day she was also sworn in as Commanding General of the U.S. Army Materiel Command at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. As the Commanding General, Dunwoody oversaw the AMC Headquarters’ move to Redstone Arsenal, Alabama under the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Act.
