SUMMARY:MEMBER EVENT: NAITA Export Control Update
DESCRIPTION:Focusing on Compliance Challenges & Export Control Reform\n\n\n\nThe North Alabama International Trade Association (NAITA)\, the U.S. Department of Commerce\, and presenting sponsor Maynard Cooper Gale PC announce the 2015 NAITA Export Control Update focusing on Compliance Challenges and Export Control Reform. The Huntsville/Madison County business landscape is filled with high technology\, which puts our businesses on the radar for U.S. Export Control regulations.\n\n\n\nPrior U.S. government authorization is often required for physical exports of defense and dual-use equipment\, as well as exchanging technical information with a foreign person in your own company. NAITA works closely with companies across the region to ensure awareness of and compliance with the regulations. The trade association primarily focuses on the U.S. State Department's International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Commerce Department's Export Administration Regulations (EAR)\, which are both going through continuing revisions through Export Control Reform. The ITAR and the EAR have their own rules\, definitions\, and idiosyncrasies\, and NAITA provides a forum to learn about the rules and to discuss best practices for compliance. \n\n\n\nThe 2015 NAITA Export Control Update brings leaders from the primary export licensing offices in Washington to Huntsville to discuss the current regulatory environment\, recent and proposed changes to the regulations\, and compliance challenges in the interim. In addition to government officials\, empowered officials from defense contractors\, attorneys\, and those who have recently left top government positions will also provide practical guidance on managing export compliance now and following proposed changes.\n\n\n\nThe keynote luncheon address features Kevin Wolf\, Assistant Secretary for Export Administration\, U.S. Department of Commerce. He will discuss Export Control Reform for Competitiveness & National Security. Wolf and BIS are at the forefront of the Export Control Reform Initiative\, which seeks to increase regulatory efficiency and protect U.S. national security\, while enabling American businesses to be more globally competitive. The Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) the State Department's directorate with responsibility for military and defense exports and the Defense Technology Security Administration (DTSA) DOD's advisors to State will participate on the program as well.\n\n\n\nKenneth Handelman\, Deputy Assistant Secretary\, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC)\, U.S. Department of State (Invited)\; and Michael Laychak\, Deputy Director of the Defense Technology Security Administration (DTSA)\, U.S. Department of Defense\, will discuss the current regulations\, as well as changes that impact industry. Corporate practitioners\, attorneys\, and other federal government representatives\, including corporate export compliance officials\, will complete the lineup of speakers and provide pragmatic advice for export compliance best practices in an interactive conference highlighting regulatory compliance issues.\n\n\n\nDownload flier
