SUMMARY:2021 Intercultural Competency in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Creating a Culture of Awareness\, Acceptance\, and Respect\n\nStudies have shown that a diverse and inclusive workforce supports both the growth and development of a business. If managed correctly\, intercultural competency   awareness\, acceptance\, and respect of all walks of life   can serve as both an incentive for your human capital and a competitive advantage for your organization. This workshop highlights the importance of creating a diversity management strategy for your organization\, and you should leave feeling prepared and excited to create meaningful and lasting change within your organization.\n\n\n\nDuring our time together\, we will briefly explain diversity\, unconscious biases\, and the lenses through which we view our world. We will explore techniques to incorporate intercultural competency into your company culture\, how to discuss uncomfortable or sensitive topics\, and create diversity management and affirmative action plans (AAPs). Finally\, we will discuss the concept and importance of intentional allyship both in and out of the workplace.\n\n\n\nPresenters:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKatie Greene\n\nKatie Greene is a self-proclaimed Floridian Lizard living in north Alabama. She serves as the Education & Resource Specialist for the Office of Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) and develops\, organizes\, and conducts training and development opportunities for both the UAH campus and Huntsville/Madison County area. Greene has worked in higher education for over four years and is in their second semester of the Human Resources Management Master's program at UAH.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJillian Miles\n\nJillian Miles is a Talent Management Consultant with a background in higher education and in industry. She has taught undergraduate courses in management\, HR\, and professional development\, and has experience in talent acquisition and training and development. Miles is a graduate of Auburn University with a BSBA in Human Resources Management and an MBA. She is a SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)\, a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF)\, and a Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP).
