Thrive Alabama to announce healthcare expansion plans at holiday open house

Huntsville, Ala. –Thrive Alabama will announce exciting plans for primary healthcare expansion and give an update on the agency’s Mobile HIV/STI Testing Vehicle at a Holiday Open House Thursday, Nov. 30. The open house/World AIDS Day event is 5 to 7 p.m. at Thrive’s Huntsville clinic located at 600 St. Clair Ave. Building 3.

Primary Healthcare Expansion
Thrive Alabama has provided healthcare and support service for nearly 30 years to people living with HIV.  Now the nonprofit organization wants to take its compassionate and skilled care to the entire community. This month, Thrive Alabama will apply to become a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike (FQHC). This new plan for growth includes:
  • Providing primary healthcare to people not living with HIV
  • Expanding services to include dental, eye care, pediatrics, and women’s healthcare
  • Beginning a capital campaign to purchase a larger medical facility
Thrive Alabama currently offers a variety of services to the community:
  • Substance Abuse Treatment / Behavioral Healthcare
  • PrEP, a once-daily pill for people who do not have HIV to protect against becoming infected.
  • Sexually Transmitted Infection Clinic
Mobile HIV/STI Testing Vehicle
Through individual donations, grants, and fundraising, Thrive Alabama will bring free HIV testing and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment to North Alabama in the form of a 33-foot clinic on wheels. A dedicated team will use the transport to provide services throughout Thrive’s 12-county service area. The agency will launch the service in spring 2018 and is still taking donations toward the project.
Evening of Celebration
As part of the open house, there will be a clinic tour and the presentation of the John Dunkel Humanitarian Service Award and the Sherri Shipman Service Award. The awards recognize a volunteer and a staff member who exemplify excellence in service and further the organization’s mission.  Guests will also be treated to refreshments, music, and a live painting presentation.
